Mario Dirks:"How to use the Freeze studio flashes with a Sony Alpha"

Freeze-Studioblitze

The new mobileRollei Blitze Freeze 6S &Freeze 4S are suitable for use in the studio as well as outdoors, a radio receiver has been installed that enables the flashes to be triggered wirelessly even from a great distance. The relatedRadio transmitter Mark II is multifunctional and compatible with all major camera manufacturers such as Canon, Nikon, Olympus, Panasonic, Fujii and Sony. This is practical if you use several camera systems at the same time, or if you change the camera system. Of course, additional information from the camera, such as TTL and HSS, is also transmitted to the flash via the transmitter.

I use the mirrorless camera to take photos with the flashes Sony Alpha 7 III. In this guide, I explain what you need to pay special attention to with this camera in order to quickly obtain meaningful results blog post.

Rollei Freeze-Studioblitz

First, I dedicate myself to Camera settings . Like most mirrorless cameras from other manufacturers, the Sony Alpha 7 III has an electronic viewfinder. The advantage is that you can see all the settings live in the eyepiece or on the display when taking a picture. For example, I work in manual mode. If I now adjust the exposure time or aperture, I can immediately see what the final image will look like. release done..

However, it becomes problematic when working with external flashes, for example in the studio. If I'm here about a 1/250s. Shutter speed, aperture 11 at ISO 100, I see nothing in the viewfinder. Because the camera does not know that a flash will be added when the shutter is released..

But so that I can still see something in the viewfinder, there is a setting in the menu. The menu item is called: Live view display

When working with flashes, this setting should be on „out of“ stand. After that, the electronic viewfinder works almost like that of a normal DSLR camera.

In addition, you should still pay attention to the functions in the camera „Reduce red-eye“ , as well as „wireless flashing“ disable in the menu.

Now you canradio transmitter onto the hot shoe of your camera. For the Sony Alpha 7 III you need another one in order to be able to work with TTL or HSS adapter , the one with theradio transmitter Mark II is supplied.

You can now conveniently set your flashes remotely from your position via the radio transmitter. To ensure problem-free transmission, you must set the same transmission channel and the corresponding group on the flash and on the transmitter. The groups allow you to control multiple flashes differently. So you can get overGroup A control the main flash while you're inGroup B Your fill light and inGroup C maybe drive effect or edge light.

You still have to use the flash TTL ALL activate and select the camera used on the transmitter (in my case Sony).

Now the shooting can begin. Using the transmitter, you can easily set the mode in which you want to take photos, whether manual or automatic via TTL, from where you are. You can then use the wheel on the transmitter to adjust the power of the flash. Either in 1/10 steps or, after pressing the wheel for a little longer, in whole power levels.

In the automatic TTL mode, you can use the flash exposure correction to correct the flash line up to +/- 6 levels.

The flashes also have an LED steady light, which helps the camera to focus and allows you to assess the light/shadow formation in advance. Of course, the continuous light can also be switched on or off from the transmitter.

Hallo,
Was mache ich falsch?
Vielleicht können Sie mir helfen.
Vielen Dank schon mal.
Gruß Robert

Robert Pirzer ,

Danke Mario!
Viele Grüße von Lutz aus Lübeck
